Piedmont is located in northwestern Italy, between gentle hills and majestic Alps. This hazelnut is a prestige product, especially for premium product lines: this hazelnut variety, Tonda Gentile Trilobata, is of very high quality and is indeed counted among the best hazelnuts in the world. It is highly valued for its fine aroma, texture, and roasting quality.

“Trilobata” = three-lobed (due to the typical shape of the nut)

The Tonda Gentile Trilobata and its close connection with Piedmont, especially with the Langhe-Roero-Monferrato region, around Alba and Asti, has deep historical and cultural roots.

IGP stands for “Indicazione Geografica Protetta” – in English: “Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)”. This is an EU quality seal.

The hazelnut stands symbolically and culturally for several things:

Naturalness and Purity – It grows with minimal care in nature and often stands for originality.

Energy and Nutritional Value – Hazelnuts are rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals, so they symbolize strength, vitality, and well-being.

Tradition and Craftsmanship – Especially in Piedmont, the hazelnut is a symbol of regional quality and culinary heritage (e.g., in confectionery and chocolate).

Fertility and Protection – In ancient European customs, the hazel bush was considered a protective symbol and the nut was seen as a sign of fertility and wisdom.

The harvest took place in late August/early September: Depending on the season, hazelnuts are only available for a limited period. They are stored in their shells and roasted and further processed as needed to optimally develop their flavor and aroma.
